Canon Puncture show 108: Game Advocates - Unknown Armies

  • Unknown Armies is a transcendental modern horror game
  • It’s creepy and gritty, very evocative text and world setting

Designer vs Reality Episodes 18,19,20: Shadows Playtest 1A, 1B, 1C
  • The group plays a new game - the working title is Shadows and the game is a creation of Nolan, who was a player in Dan Maruschak’s Final Hour of a Storied Age
  • Shadows is a low magic medieval fantasy game, with more of a storybook than “grim and gritty” tone. There is some inspiration from Frankenstein (the mad scientists) and the anime series Full Metal Alchemist
  • In this episode, Dan edits in some bits where he reads out information that wouldn’t be normally accessible for people listening to an AP podcast, it really helps listeners keep on track, a great idea

  • Information being lost between the GM and the Players
  • Detailing a scene for 10 minutes - information can get lost (too much, people not listening to everything, forgetting to state something)
  • Trusting in each other to give the information needed to progress the story
  • Communication is key between the GM and player - expectations, where the story is going, not keeping secrets to mess over the players later
  • Games need limitations to create amazing characters
  • Don’t horde the cool! Everyone should do cool things

    • Devon's Threshold Kickstarter - His game about Tragic Superheroes is a game of terminal hospital patients given superpowers. Instead of living their last weeks in a hospital bed, they are given powers that most people only dream of. The game uses an interesting trait named Regret to tie the characters to the world and give them something to care about during their last days. It is a rules-lite story game, concentrating on telling the stories of these characters' final days of life
    • Contest! Finish the Plot Hook - ends Feb 19th at midnight! “Your ship has wrecked at sea. You’ve been floating amongst the driftwood for what seems like a week, but it can’t have been more than 24 hours. As you lay on a makeshift raft, something bumps it from below. Cautiously, you roll over and…”
